My name is Chiu Tuen Ming Dicky and I am a secondary teacher in a catholic boy’s school. I teach F3-5 mathematics and A. Maths.. Actually, I love my teaching very much and I think that teaching is meaningful. I not only teach students knowledge but also influence their growth positively. My feeling about the final assignment

First, I am not familiar with the software Flash and I found it's really difficult to get started. Bit by bit, we could finish the program at the end.
Second, though I am a mathematics teacher, I find the program very interactive and it can arouse the students' learning motivation.
I think I will pass my final assignment to my colleagues to try it....

My final assignment

Most S.4 Chemistry Students do not know why the end point of an acid-base titration (e.g. colour change of the indicator) can roughly match the equivalence point of the titration. From the following learning object, it shows when various amount of hydrochloric acid(acid) is added into sodium hydroxide solution (base), the pH of the reaction mixture (indicated by the titration curve) and colour of the indicator (in this case : methyl orange) at each particular moment. The visual representation can make the case explicitly visualize to the students.

My reflection on Session 5

Interactive visual repretation can really enhance human performance on cognitively complex tasks. This the most impressive sentence in mind in this session. In Hong Kong education system, students are forced to rote a lot of knowledge without any in-depth thinking. Therefore, constructivism learning hardly takes place in HK. Being a teacher, we are responsible to develop the constructivism learning.
In this aspect, the interactive visual representation works and it can really help the students to construct their knowledge on their own.

My proposed fianl assignment

I am a high form mathematics teacher. I would like design a interactive visual representation on the tropic of Euler line. Actually, Euler line is something to do with orthocentre, incentre and circumcentre. By dragging the conners of a triangle, the students can discover the relationship among all these point on a Euler line.

My reflection on session 4

In this session, I came across a lot of interesting interactive software. The most impressive one is "Iran Map" which I posted on my Blog previously and I will show them to my students later on. I always think that map and atlas are very boring and I never take a look at them more than 5 minutes. But when I tried the Iran Map, I really found it very interesting and kept surfing more information about the whole country Iran. It is incredible that a map is no longer boring at all and I can learn a lot about the country Iran in a very short time. How can learning be interesting and fruitful??
In the later part of this session, I also tried many sotware with the explaination of the leacturer. They are really inspiring and I should take a look at my teaching at a different angle from now on....

My reflection on session 3

In this session, I learnt how to make a story-telling and a vedio which I never come up with them in my teaching. Now, with the help of ICT, a story-telling and vedio are very easy to be produced. In my school, we have many projectors and notebooks, this makes vedio and story-telling possible in my teaching. Through out the whole lesson, I kept thinking how I can integrate them in my mathematics teaching and how the students think and react to them which they never come across. Above all, how such interactive and vivid "stuff" can arouse their motivation and enhance their learning is my key concern as they will take the HKCEE examination in F.5. I think it is really the time to change our teaching style and habit.

" Visuals can present data, information, reality, knowledge, ideas, emotions,… " is the most impressive sentence I learnt in this session. Actually, the traditional learning can't "cater" the need of students now. Reading book can no longer motivate or inspire students' thinking. With the help of ICT, vedio and story-telling software are not difficult to be produced and they can brainstorm the students effectively. Above all, students can find learning enjoyable, no long boring. This, in turn, makes the learning far more effective and fruitful, and students can equip themselves well to face the challenges in this "knowledge era".

The beginning of Mite 6323

--What have you learnt in the first lesson of this module?

I find some interactive visual software interesting and I wonder in the HK education system, how we can integrate those softwares in our teaching to arouse the learning motivation of students. Actually, students can learn a lot through the visual media and thus enhance thier motivation to learn. Sometimes, we can provide some interactive activities for the students to learn and build up their knowledge. Besides, teachers can no longer be the intructors and knowledge-feeder. Instead, teachers should be the facilitators.

--What do you hope to learn in this module?

To learn how interactive visual activities helps the learning of the students and how students can benefit from these kinds of activities. Besides, I hope this module can change my teaching paradign to more constructivism approaches .

--Do you think that interactive visual representations are important for education?

Sure. Interactive visual representations are very impressive and interesting. It surely arouses the learning motivation among students.
